Cnidaria
The Cnidaria phylum is one of the most diverse types of creatures we know of. They range from jellyfish, to fire corals to even anemones. Most of the Cnidaria Phylum reside in our oceans and some are very well known too us.They get there name from the Greek word "cnidos" (which in Greek means stinging needle). One of the defensive mechanics that a Cnidaria is known for is the stinging needle that the Cnidaria has. A lot of the time these creatures like Jellyfish will sting things and since they are laced with a type of poison the Jellyfish would be able to overtake its prey. There are 4 major groups of Cnidaria's, Anthozoa, Cubozoa, Hydrozoa and Scyphozoa. It has about 9,500 members in its Phylum. One thing that is very extraordinary is that when tiny Cnidaria called polyps all join together, their joined exoskeletons create what we know as coral. Coral plays a big part in protecting our shore lines from storms and strong waves.
